It’s summer time!

Hey y’all,

First of all, I wanted to apologize for my absence last week. As you might have concluded from my previous post, the last week of school is hectic af. Anyway, now I’m back, school’s out and the holidays are ON. Since I haven’t really found time to force my friends to take pictures of me, I thought I’d do a little round up of my doings of the past week, combined with some outfit and food snaps taken on my phone. Enjoy!

Last saturday, it was time for me and my team-mates to say good-bye to our dear chaser Rachel, who will be going on an exchange to South-Africa for half a year. It was a great party, packed with fun things such as night walk on the dike, tarot cards and fandoms against humanity. Was I tired the day after? Yes. But it was lovely to be out in the countryside in the sun with some lovely people for a bit.

While we were out there, I also got Suus to take a couple of pictures of me, and at night Nikki took some shots too (although I’m not entirely sure which ones are me and which ones are Suus… oops). I wore a white, sleeveless top with a turtleneck, and a black skater skirt. Safe the all-stars, my outfit was all H&M Basics… Gotta keep it simple!

The outfit felt really classy/90’s, I’m not sure. Me being inspired to go with the turtleneck might have something to do with the fact that I’ve also recently started watching Friends – it had to happen at some point. I’m starting to appreciate Jennifer Aniston! I’m currently at season 4 and I. Dig. It.

Friends

On monday and tuesday I had to go to school to do some final work. On wednesday, I made an appointment at the hairdresser’s, and I got my hair dyed pink. Now this is a big deal, at the very least to me, and to be honest I’m still getting used to it almost a week later. I’ve wanted to dye my hair pink for over a year now; I used semi-permanent pink dye for the first time at Elfia last year, and that was after debating it for quite some time. This choice wasn’t an impulse, it was something I’d been thinking about for a long time, it would be reasonably easy to rectify if it would look bad, and for me, it was also a way of pushing myself to go out and do the things I want to do instead of thinking about it and never actually doing it – just like with veganism.

After 4 hours of dye and scissors, I had a nice night in with Suus, some (vegan) pizza and ice cream and The Three Musketeers. Thursday was a day of hanging and filming, and on friday I went in to school for the last time this year, after which I did some cooking with my also-recently-vegan friend Yana. In the evening we took this food to have a nice barbecue with more friends to celebrate the end of the school year.

On saturday, I had yet another dinner with friends – this is the holiday life! Since I’m vegan now, I have to bring my own meals most of the time, which gives me an opportunity to cook for myself much more. For this dinner I made some wraps, filled with a “sauce” of tomato, kidney beans, eggplant, bell peppers and minced tofu, with some soy yoghurt instead of creme fraîche and some iceberg lettuce or rocket salad. As a dessert I made some brownies with cane sugar and flaxseed eggs, although I’m still working on fine-tuning this vegan version.

That’s about what I’ve been up to! Lots of food, lots of sunshine and lots of fun – I’m loving summer!

What are you doing this summer?

Love, Ruby
