Ruby in the Sky

I posted a video on Youtube today called A New Perspective (here), and I decided to write the same message down to try and get it across better.

Most of us wake up in the same bed, look at the same wall or out the same window, get up to the same tune of their alarm clock, sit at the same desk and communicate with the same people nearly every day of the year. It’s a rut most of us are in, and it can be truly dull. But what makes it so boring, is not that it’s the same things every day; it’s that we look at them the same way every day.

Look up from whatever screen you’re reading this from, and take at least a minute to look at your surroundings. I’m sure you’ve sat in this exact position a million times before, but did you ever notice that the white of the wall was different from the white of the chair? Or that there was a little yellow blur in the background of that photo you always love to look at? Did you imagine the hundreds of people walking around in the houses next to you, living their lives just like you, in this very moment?

If you didn’t, that’s okay: most of us forget to stop and take a good look at where they are and what’s actually happening around them. I think we should. The world around you is far less boring if you can look at it as if it were the first time you saw it (think circle of life!). There is so much beauty out there that goes unnoticed: it’s up to us to see and appreciate it.
