After unwinding on the beautiful beaches of Ko Phi-Phi, it was time to take the ferry once again, towards my last new destination in Thailand: Krabi.
After getting of the ferry and striking what may very well have been the smartest deal of my entire trip (getting an entire minivan to myself for 50 baht, as opposed to getting a cab for 300), I got to my hostel. When I first arrived, I wasn’t sure if the place I was staying is was very central, despite having tried to find something that was – later I found out Krabi is simply a very sleepy town.
Another example of this, was my room. I was staying in a mixed dorm that fit about 10 people. When I got in, only 5 beds were occupied. By the time I left, I was the only one staying there. However, it was a nice place. The mattresses were like stone, but there were two clean, beautiful bathrooms, a balcony and tons of natural light.
After I got settled in, I set out to explore the town. First stop: the market. When I went to get a smoothie I was happy to find that I was back in a place with “normal” prices: 25 baht for a banana smoothie, oh yeah! After wandering the (very small) market for a little bit, I decided to explore the rest of the town. Soon enough I figured out there was not much to be found on street level, so I found my way up. Basically, I walked onto a road that went up a hill. After walking along the road for about 45 minutes, I realized I wasn’t about to find anything interesting – so I made my way back to my hotel, got some food and called it a day.
Fortunately, the next morning I managed to connect with my remaining 3 roommates. One of them was leaving that day, but the other two were planning a trip to Ao Nang, a beach area half an hour away from Krabi town, and they invited me to come along. We got on a packed song thaew (a blue one this time), and the only way we could get on was by standing on the ledge and holding on to a metal bar. It was epic.

When we got to the beach we scouted for some cheap smoothies, and then made our way to find a good, shaded spot along the shore. The spot was so picturesque, I couldn’t help myself but have a little photoshoot. Despite my current reality, it’s not everyday you’re in the most beautiful places in the South of Thailand!

We made our way back, cleaned ourselves up and had dinner together, and that concluded our last day in Krabi. At 6 a.m., they left for Singapore, and by 3 p.m. I had flown on the back of a cheap scooter as well. Back to Bangkok. So long, South Thailand! You were a bumpy ride, but gorgeous nonetheless.
What do you think would be your favourite part of Thailand?
Love, Ruby
