The start of the new year and a time of reflection may have been celebrated about a month ago by most, but for me, the real start of a new journey is only coming up now. A physical journey as well as a mental one: I’m getting on a plane to Thailand in a matter of days. And as this is the beginning of a new chapter for me, I thought now would be the right time to do some reflecting of my own.
Taking a Gap
I have not been in school (taking lessons or exams) since June last year. Let me tell you, it feels like forever. Since graduating high school, I have taken a proper, long break (let’s call it summer vacation+), and started working immediately after.
At first I only had work 2 days a week, whilst I was looking out for other places I might like to devote my time and energy to; then I found two more jobs in a relatively short period of time and before I knew it, I didn’t really have much time to do anything else – such as blogging. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a working girl and experiencing different jobs, and it has taught me a lot, in a variety of ways that I’ll probably get into once I have some distance.
Packing my bags
In a way, I’m actually sad that I won’t be working for the next two months (but in another I’m really ready for a break). But the plan was always to work in order to be able to travel, and now it is time for me to enjoy the fruits of my labour. I’m about to embark on the biggest trip of my life so far, and I am beyond excited to see an entirely new part of the world. As I write this I’m actually realizing that the farthest east I’ve ever been was in fact Prague. You’d almost think this trip is long overdue.
So, what am I doing? I am going to explore Thailand for the next three weeks. In my true backpacking nature, I have planned out the majority of this trip already, so as to make sure I get to see as much of this undoubtedly beautiful country as possible. After that, I will be heading for the South-East Coast of Australia. Here, traveling from Sydney to Melbourne, I will have more time to take the actual loose, flexible approach backpackers are known for. A different country, a different challenge, so to speak.
Time for me
Travel is going to be time for me, but after the hectic, work-packed months I have just had, that might mean something different than expected. All this time I spent working went away from time I would spend creating: writing, filming… even drawing. So now that I have time to myself and an incredible experience to capture, I plan to get back into (social media) shape.
Armed with camera, notebooks and pen, I am going out into the world and taking anyone who wants to come along for the ride with me. I’m not going to put any stress on it in the form of schedules or deadlines, but that won’t stop me from working hard (hardly working) on sharing what I’ve documented with you.
In short, if you like, there’s a lot I want to show you.
Find me here, here, here & here.
Love, Ruby
