A Friend in me

Now, I don’t mean to brag (really, I do), but I have some pretty amazing friends. Some I’ve known for ages, some I’ve only just gotten to know recently, there’s even a few that I used to, well.. not hate, but strongly dislike. It’s funny how things can change, isn’t it? Point is, they’re all incredible and I’m so happy they’re in my life. My friends make me feel like a more grounded, complete person. So, today, an ode to my friends – thank you for being the greatest thing to happen to me ever <3

You know me

I often stand surprised at how well you can predict my moves or know the things I like, sometimes without me even knowing it myself. You know what makes me happy, you can sense it when I’m sad and you know how to cheer me up when I am.

You accept me

Like everyone else, I’m far from perfect and even though I try, I know I’m not always as good to you as you deserve me to be. Still, you take the bad as much as you take the good. You make me want to be better, but most of all, you make me believe I can be.

You are family

You can’t choose the family you’re born into, but you can choose the people you surround yourself with. You are like a home I know I can always return to, you are a place safer than any other. You are the siblings I didn’t have, you are the people I confide in.

I know you

Even when I don’t know what’s on your mind, I will try to understand you the best I can. I’ll hug you when you’re in tears, I’ll sit next to you in silence. I’ll laugh with you, I’ll dance with you, I’ll do whatever it takes until there’s nothing else left.

I accept you

There is not a part of you that I do not love. You are perfect in all your imperfections as much as in your talents. It does not matter how you look, what you feel, what or who you like. I will be your friend, no matter what.

I am family

When you have nowhere else to turn, my arms are open wide. Celebrate happy times, grief when it gets sad. It doesn’t matter what’s going on, it doesn’t matter where I am or what I’m doing. I will find a way to be there. I will always find a way to be as close to you as you’ll allow me to.

And most of all, I will always love you.
