Note to dreamers

We all have a dream at some point or other in our life. Some dream to be a doctor, others want to perform or be a lawyer. We’re allowed to have those dream when we’re younger, but as we get older things change. Sometimes your dream changes. Sometimes your dream is not acceptable anymore. It doesn’t get spoken about a lot, but all too often there’s still a pressure from family to go or not go in a certain direction. If you want to be a singer as a kid, that’s fine. Once you reach an age where parents might realize this desire is not going away, however, it gets more complicated.

Parents want the best for their children in most scenarios, but intention is not always the best motivator. If you’re into arts, for example, and you get told pursuing it is not realistic, you get torn. You want to do it, but you’re afraid to put yourself out there because you don’t want to prove them right. You want to go all in, but you don’t want to risk ending up with nothing. This is exactly how you end up not achieving that dream. If you want it, go get it. Know your own worth and don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. That’s just something I wanted to say.

When I was little, I wanted to be famous. I loved attention and I loved praise. Over time, I learned that these are not generally considered good traits, although a lot of people have them. Over time I also learned that I didn’t just want to be famous; I wanted to be known for some change or other, some impact I’d made. 3,5 years ago, I posted my first blog post after being hesitant for months. Little over 3 years ago, I first posted a video to Youtube. Since then I have been held back by opinions other than my own, time and lack of ideas, but I’ve never stopped loving writing and film-making. Everyone has a personal creative outlet, and these are mine. I love them to bits, regardless of how many people see them. I’m (most often) proud of what I do. I don’t know where it will lead me, if anywhere, but I know I want to keep doing it.

Was there a core point to this post? Not really. Sometimes you just have to write it all out of your system a bit. Also, I hope that I may have inspired others to follow their dreams despite it’s career prospects or what others think of it. Your happiness is your greatest wealth.

Love,

Ruby
