I love doing lots of things at once. It gives a kind of adrenaline kick that makes me want to do well more and the relief afterwards is much more rewarding than if it’d been easy. Basically, it’s a drug. And like any other drug, after the high there will always be a fall (which makes me think of Limitless). There is a moment when the build-up becomes too much and the bucket spills, if that makes sense. Anyhow, I had that last weekend.

Throughout life we get to know ourselves and we get to know our own limits. It’s okay to try and stretch those, but there’s a very fine line between stepping out of your comfort zone and moving into danger zone. It’s an intricate balance that you can only find by trail and error.

Luckily, there are some ways to gradually explore your boundaries: the first one is to start stacking on slowly. Take on one project, then if you feel you can manage that, take on the next. When you have found a comfortable rhythm again with the new project, take on another if you like, just until you feel you’re reaching your limit. You can now either stop or take on one more, smaller project you can easily back out of to see wether you could handle it or not.

A second way to see what you can and cannot make your body do, is by having clear divisions: not only in space but also in time (du-wie-duuuuu). Try to have set places and time frames in which you work, for example work for 1,5 hours on one thing at your desk, get up to make yourself some tea or a snack, work another 1,5 hours and take a longer break of 15-30 minutes in which you can watch a series or, if you want to go for the smarter choice, do some kind of physical activity – working out is supposed to actually help you focus.

I would give you more tips, but the truth is I know as much or little as the next person about this; all we can do is try to figure it out as we move along. I’m gonna wrap this up here before I get too worked up about not being able to come up with enough, and hopefully I’ll feel recharged next week!

What do you do to keep yourself sane?

Love,

Ruby
