I have a new coat and I love it. Incidentally, it’s over 30 years old.
I got this coat from my grandmother a few weeks back when I visited. It’s the coat she used to wear on her walks when it was cold out and I can see why. My grandmother is a very graceful, classically styled woman. She’s always been one to buy the more expensive items and preserve them well, rather than buying cheaper things and replacing them more often. As a result, I occasionally get clothes from her that look like new, but are in fact from back in the time when she used to live in Surinam or travel other exciting places with my granddad – e.g. the shirt in my Rome post.

Apart from the coat, my outfit is not old, although I like to think of it as having that vibe, with the mom jeans and the little bag. Add in my favorite, chunky black heels and my bright blue hair and you get an interesting mix of times.
I like the thought that some of my clothes (or any second hand items for that matter) have a story behind them. Memories lived, in a time where everything was so different from what it is now and no one would’ve guessed how crazy this world could be. Anyhow, those are some things to think about when wandering through a vintage shop or looking through your own clothing rakes.
What is the most special piece in your wardrobe?
Love,
Ruby
