As with the beginning of a new year on the calendar, a new year on the school agenda to me calls for some new year’s resolutions. New school year’s resolutions, if you will. This year is going to be my final year of high school, and I’m planning on getting the best out of it I possibly can. So, as I kick of this amazingly terrifying year, here are my senior year goals…

#1 do fun stuff

This may sound like a weird school-related goal, but I have a tendency to curl up on my bed with my laptop and watch Netflix all day. I know I’m not the only one doing this, but over the past years I’ve learned that the longer/more often I do this, the less I want to go out and the less happy I am. This final year I want to make the most of it and make sure to force myself to go out every now and again.

#2 learn to make nice salads

could take bread to school, and when I’m lazy, I do. Thing is, it’s dull and it doesn’t keep me full that long. When I was younger I always felt an intense hatred towards lettuce. I still don’t really like it, but I’ve learned that lettuce is not a prerequisite for a salad: there’s tons of other greens that you can put in there, such as rocket, spinach or even broccoli. I’m ready to give salads a chance now, but I have a lot to learn: hence this goal!

#3 sleep well

Sleep is always a good thing, especially when you’re under stress – and let’s be honest, school always means stress, doesn’t it? The trick, I think, to good sleep, is a steady rhythm. I’m gonna try to go to bed at the same time every night, and wake up at the same time every morning. For days that I won’t have to get up early, I’ll try and stick to the same amount of hours of sleep, and a wake-up time that’s not too much later. I hope it’ll help me stay awake during the more dull classes…

#4 keep up

This, I think, is a goal that every scholar ever has, or has had at least once in their lifetime. “This year, I’m gonna stay on top of my homework, do my assignments the day I get them and study a week ahead of tests”. Suuuure. This goal may be a bubble, but it’s a nice one to keep at the back of your mind at all times. Rumor has it there won’t be many tests this year, so with that in mind I might actually make it with this goal – who knows?

#5 aim at a 7,5 GPA

It’s safe to say that this one is the most ambitious of my goals, although not entirely unrealistic. Over the past 5 years I have pretty much maintained a GPA (grade point average, although I might be entirely misusing this term) of a 7,4, which is good, but not good enough. This may be the perfectionist in me speaking, but I would really like to graduate on a 7,5 – which would then translate into an 8. I think, by putting a little extra work in, that might be possible. It’s definitely worth a shot!

These are my goals for the upcoming year – some realistic, some slightly less so. Even though I am scared of the pressure this year brings, I’m also excited for what it will bring, and I try to focus on that. Hakuna Matata, after all ;)

What are you going to do this year?

Love, Ruby
