The Bill

I’m gonna be honest here, I’m not sure whose english I’m using here – but what I mean by bill is the sum of money you pay at for example the end of a dinner.

I am, however, not talking about dinner: I’m talking about the school year. As we’re rapidly approaching summer, I’ve been seeing this phenomenon happen to both myself and many others: all the stress of the past year’s work is building up into this one, massive eruption that is soon to burst. We all have our taxes for how much we can handle, and most of us are reaching a limit. After every holiday, our fuse shortens and after the may holidays we’re pretty much instantly ready to hibernate again. To make matters worse, this is where the system has conveniently decided to give us our most important tests, exams and assignments. You’re burning up? Oh, that won’t be final year for you then. Lol.

There’s not much we can do about this, except for trying to see things in perspective, focus on what’s most important, and, next year, have a better foundation. Every year, every holiday even, I tell myself I’m going to keep up to date on everything from that moment on. It’s much easier to keep track when you only have to take small steps; as soon as you start lagging behind, it because increasingly difficult to catch up again. It’s like putting away your freshly washed clothes: if you do it as soon as they’re out of the wash (and dry, obviously), it’s only a tiny stack. If you wait until a time that suits you better, it becomes a bigger stack, which is so big you decide you’ll do it later. And a bigger stack follows, until you’re one chair down because it’s just stuffed with clothes that don’t actually feel that fresh and crispy clean anymore. When you could’ve easily just done it stack by stack.

If you’re already at this point: turn off or at the very least mute your phone, create a schedule, try to stick to it as much as you can, get your 7-9 hours of sleep and thank me after.

Lesson for today and message to future me: tiny stacks are much easier to put in the closet. Also, you might want to start working on your school work right from the first class and not the day before.

Love, Ruby
