Here I was, missing my blog post deadline (admittedly, set by me) once again. It was the start of a new year, and already it felt as if I weren’t going to accomplish anything whatsoever this year. The number of the year sucked, I hadn’t thought about resolutions at all, and I was swamped with doing nothing. Then I looked at the brand new motivational theme of 2015, and I realised: it’s never too late. You see, the theme this year is “Lose a battle, win the war, and to me it means that I shouldn’t quit after one mistake. Heck, if I make 24 in a day, I still shouldn’t. Because it’s one day out of 365, and just because I missed this one, doesn’t mean I’ll have to miss every other thing I set out to do as well, if anything, it’s the other way around: these mistakes should motivate me to do better tomorrow, even this hour if I can! So I sat down behind my new laptop, thinking about how I could totally write a post on my birthday presents, and got to work on my new year’s resolutions, even if it was just to have something to reflect on by the end of the year.

#1 Food

As of late, I have turned into a vegetarian. I intend to minimise my intake of animal products as much as possible as the year precedes, hopefully being vegan somewhere halfway. Why do I want this? Animals suffer, 1/4 of the food we give them could feed all the hungry mouths around the globe, and they are not what we are meant to eat and therefore not healthy for us.

#2 Exercise

In 2014, my physical activity took a huge leap with taking on rowing as well as quidditch. I did work-outs on and off, and in 2015 I want to try to make this more on, less off. Why? Because I want to feel good in my body and I want it to look and work the way it’s supposed to, which is: strong.

#3 Study

2014 marked the first year of real importance for my high school graduation. This year, things are getting even more serious, and as I intend to live up to my expectations and capabilities, I want to try and really work. Start studying for tests at least 3 days in advance, revise frequently, summarize, all that stuff. The reason for this seems pretty obvious to me.

#4 Social

Quidditch didn’t just provide me with physical exercise, but with social events as well. I want to try to be outgoing on those occasions, and be the best friend to the people I care about I feel myself capable of being. Do onto others as you want to be done onto yourself, or something like that – right?

#5 Blogging

I love writing and I love my blog. I find that the more time and effort I put into it, the more it pays of and the more I like doing it. Call me childish, but getting a reward for labour just feels great, and really, when I miss a post it works the other way around. I don’t want my blog to be a source of frustration, I want it to be a source of happiness! Which is why in 2015 I want to continue my longest blogging strike ever, preferably forever (I know, lame joke, I’m sorry…).

With a very satisfied sigh, I leaned back in my to be honest not that comfortable chair. I had written down the things I wanted to do this year. Somehow, I felt like it had lifted a weight of off my shoulders: I could get started on the real work now! And man, excited I was… How foolish, right? Or isn’t it… says Barney Stinson.

What are your resolutions this year?

Love, Ruby
