If there’s one make up item nearly every woman wearing make up on this planet uses, it’s lipstick. Even those who hate spending time on their face, simply don’t have any time, or the ones that love to take their time: I’m pretty sure most of us won’t leave the house without at least some sort of lip balm in her bag. For those who like a natural look or don’t wear any other make up, there’s the invisible glosses or the (tinted) lip balm. For those who like it classy but ever so glamourous, there’s the red lip, and for those that like to play, there are thousands of colors in the forms of hundreds of products by the widest range of brands.
Because the lip is such an important part of a woman’s look, companies are always inventing new formulas, promoting new products, or thinking of new colors to add to their ranges. As a consequence, there are so many lip orientated hypes it’s hard to keep up. Having tried quite a few products myself, I thought I’d give you my view on a couple of them. Some of them the latest trends, some other you might’ve never heard of before, or didn’t expect to be anything promising. Come and see for yourself ;)
The Baby Lips in Cherry Me & Pink Punch
Maybelline Baby Lips
The Maybelline Baby Lips have been around for a couple of months now, and as I was as curious about them as anyone else, I bought myself two: Cherry Me (left) & Pink Punch. I think the packaging of these is cute, but as opposed to most other bloggers I’ve heard about these, I didn’t really like the product itself. I tried out Pink Punch first, because I wanted to see if it gave any color. It seemed pretty obvious to me that Cherry Me did, but the color of Pink Punch seemed so… chemical to me that I wondered if it would look the same on the lips… It did. I didn’t like these, because they felt very chemical which kind of blocked out the idea of them being nourishing for me. They smell chemical, they look chemical, and they feel chemical. I usually go for tinted lip balms by Labello, very badly pictured below, and I think the Labello ones feel much better, which is why I’ll be using these again in the future and the Baby Lips not so much.
My darling Labello’s
Revlon Lip Butter in 025 Peach
Revlon’s Lip Butters
It’s hard to get your hands on some Revlon when you live in the Netherlands. Lucky for me, I’ve found two spots where I can get some. I’ve been intending to buy one of the Lip Butters for a couple of months now, but when I was in London in november, I just couldn’t seem to figure out which shade I wanted to go for, so I just left it for another time, whenever that would be. The color of the one I finally picked, a shimmery peach, isn’t really an eye catcher, but the texture is amazing. In this shade it’s something for a natural day to day look, but nothing more and nothing less. I hope to come back to the store and find a shade that works better for me another time.
Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick in 107 by Kate Moss for Rimmel
Rimmel Kate Moss Matte Lipstick
The collaboration between the well-known brand Rimmel and the well-known model Kate Moss seems to be a golden catch. The combination has been around for a couple of years now, but still seems popular enough to create a new line. Some time ago, I wanted to get a purple-ish lipcolor for fall and winter. For unknown reason, I have my subconscious preferences and they led me to the Rimmel counter, where I found my perfect shade 107. The color isn’t as purple on the lips as I expected, and not as moisturizing or matte either. Still, I’m a fan, as the color still looks beautiful and really is long lasting. Conclusion: don’t buy it for the promises, buy it for the color. And the packaging. Love the packaging.
Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer in Celestial
Rimmel Apocalips
Yes, we’re sticking with Rimmel for lips! I’m not huge on lipgloss, because I think they’re too shiny, too sticky or both, which is even worse. When I heard the Apocalips were supposed to be neither, and giving a lipstick look, I thought I’d give it a try. Turns out, they’re pretty amazing. I still don’t want to try lipglosses, it hasn’t brought me that far, but chances are I am going to buy more of these. The great advantage I think they have over a lipstick, is the application, which is like a lipgloss. When you’re on the go and need a quick touch-up, a lipgloss is just way easier than a stick as you won’t go wrong with the first bump in the road. Celestial, the color I own, is a soft pink, perfect for everyday wear. There are some more soft, but also some bold colors in this collection, so there’s a lip lacquer for every situation. Bless this product.
So, I think I’m quite done talking lips. What are your favorites? Do you know any other product with an unknown pretty twin? Let me know!
